Report: Moldova may pay $9 mln out of $700 mln debt to Gazprom

CHISINAU, Oct 27 (PRIME) -- Moldova may pay U.S. $9 million of its debt to Russian gas giant Gazprom out of the assessed amount of $700 million, President Maia Sandu said told channel Vocea Basarabiei late on Thursday.

"We have proof -- an audit was done by international companies acclaimed in the area. This way Moldovagaz may pay Gazprom $9 million, rather than about $700 million," Sandu said.

Moldovan Energy Minister Victor Parlicov said in September that out of the $709 million debt of Moldova to Gazprom, $276 million transactions had no documentary proof, while $400 million is not to be charged because of expiration of the claiming rights term. Gazprom disagreed with the report.
